The Columbus Crew beat Los Angeles 1-0 on Saturday to move to the brink of qualification for next season's CONCACAF Champions League while pushing the Galaxy closer to a third straight failure to make the Major League Soccer playoffs. Venezuelan forward Alejandro Moreno scored in the 43rd minute against his old club. Columbus has three games to play in the regular season and is ten points clear of the closest team Houston, which has a game in hand and is the only team that can deny the Crew clinching the Supporters Shield for the best regular season record. MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative, announced today that it has teamed up with the New York Red Bulls and New Jersey Youth Soccer to support Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. The newly created program is a soccer-centered community outreach initiative that will teach young people the value of community service, educate them about global issues facing children in other parts of the world and empower them with the tools to be active global citizens making a difference in the world. Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 28, it was announced on Monday. Ching scored two goals and an assist on Saturday, leading the Dynamo to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids. With the win, Houston (11-5-10) became on of three MLS teams to clinch a berth for the 2008 MLS Cup Playoffs. Read More
